Daily Photo – Stephanie in the Wind
The Daily Photo series focuses on the two or three key creative choices, in terms of composition and processing, that go into creating an image. Specific technical details about the shot have been left out — you won’t hear me talking about tone curve adjustments and whatnot unless it was a key component of the end result.
I’m back from a nasty bout of the flu. Here’s a shot of Stephanie on a windy, overcast day.
Exposure
- Shutter: 1/500
- Aperture: f/2
- ISO: 400
- Camera: Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III
- Lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM
Composition and Processing
- I was shooting from below, so I asked Steph to lean toward the camera. I didn’t want anything in the background, and by having her lean forward I was able to use the overcast sky to fill most of the surrounding frame. It also made her entire body more even with the camera throughout.
- I had her angle a little to the (camera) left as well. That gave room for her hair to more visibly blow to the side, along with the necklace, and the fill some of the space to the left (even if they don’t technically fill it).
